Daniel Walker

Head of Technology Futures, BP

Dan established and leads the Technology Futures unit at bp, which creates material options for renewal of the BP Group from technology solutions and innovative business models. The unit is also accountable for technology input into strategy, and has been instrumental in accelerating BP’s transition to low carbon.

Dan’s career has spanned academia and the energy industry, and has been in pursuit of tackling some of the most complex challenges out there. Building our understanding of the largest ocean waves on the planet through his research. Delivering some of the most technically challenging oil and gas projects ever undertaken. Responding to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon incident and ensuring the engineering risks were mitigated. Developing innovative technologies and business models to accelerate the planet’s transition to a low carbon future. Driving the creation of a net zero carbon ambition and strategy for BP. These are some of the areas where Dan has had an impact.

Outside of the energy industry, Dan pursued post-doctoral research in fluid and structural dynamics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and held a lectureship in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. Dan is a chartered mechanical engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
